And the winner is….
I’m thrilled to share the good news! Mary Louise’s audiobook, which I directed last year, was named best audiobook Narrated by the Author at tonight’s 2024 Audies in Los Angeles.
Great recording of a terrific book
At the Macmillan Audio studios in Manhattan, Ali Velshi and I just wrapped up his recording of his new memoir, “Small Acts of Courage.” It launches May 7. You’ll enjoy reading it, but you’ll LOVE hearing Ali tell the story in the audiobook!.
It’s a major award!
I’m in the company of greatness! One of the best audiobooks I’ve ever had the pleasure to direct is a finalist for the prestigious Audie Awards. I worked with Mary Louise Kelly (with her doing the hard parts, of course) last year in Washington as she recorded her memoir, “It. Goes. So. Fast. The Year of No Do-Overs.” We’ll find out on March 4 if her book wins the “Narrated by the Author” category. The challengers include Michelle Obama and Patrick Stewart, so we’re talking high-level here. Winners will be announced on March 4 in L.A.
A new role - on stage in Brooklyn in March
I’ll be playing Inspector Craddock in Agatha Christie’s “A Murder is Announced,” running March 1 - 10 at Heights Players in Brooklyn. I’m going to figure this case out, but it’s a good thing that Miss Marple happens to be visiting Chipping Cleghorn!
Adding an important new feature…
Top tips for author-narrators, in the new Narrator Tips feature on my site.
I’ve added a page that I hope prospective author-narrators will find helpful — my favorite tips for recording your own books. https://www.gordonrothman.com/top-tips-for-author-narrators. Just the highlights; short and sweet!
Highlights from a great 13 months.
Looking back at 2023 (and just a tiny bit of 2022)
.. After Macmillan hired me for my audio and news chops as Producer for the Celadon/New Yorker edition of the January 6 Report, I pushed to get it finished with "startling speed." That effort was so successful that... ...the recording and editing were done within 24 hours of the report's release ...we beat the two closest competitors to market by more than a week and by more than a month ...both the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times wrote articles about how we did it. I had the pleasure of directing these and other author-narrators: -
Sen. Amy Klobuchar
NPR anchor Mary Louise Kelly
The Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur
Fox News anchor Bret Baier
Gen. David Petraeus
Journalist Ryan Grim
Peleton star Alex Toussaint
Journalist Tim Alberta
Best-selling author Meg Kissinger
Best-selling author Sy Montgomery
Podcast hosts Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant
Pulitzer Prize winning poet Carl Phillips
